2014 Foremother Awards and Health Policy Hero Luncheon
Each May, we honor Foremothers and Health Policy Hero. The Foremother Awards are for lifetime achievement for Washington area women whose lives have touched adults and children across the country. To learn about our impressive honorees, please check out our Foremother Awards page.
2013 Stop Cancer Now 5k Run/Walk
Our Stop Cancer Now 5k in Georgetown in Washington, DC on September 22, 2013 was a great success! We thank our wonderful teams, participants, sponsors, donors, and volunteers for making it such a special day. Check out our Facebook page for more photos, and 2L Races for official running times.
Our teams reminded us why we do this: to honor cancer survivors and remember loved ones lost to cancer. Their stories inspire us.
Our top fundraiser Michele Knuff and her Team Bob Knuff raised $2,920 in honor of her husband who passed away from carcinoid cancer in August. Our hearts are with them, and we urge you to read Bob’s story here.
Team Olsons raised $1,370 in honor of Douglas Olson and Patricia Olson. Douglas was the fastest runner at our 5k in the over 65 category.
Team Russo Audas raised $1,250 in honor of Tiffany Russo’s mother, an ovarian cancer survivor, and father, a prostate cancer survivor.
Strike Out Cancer! raised $1,030 in memory of Robert Hruz and other relatives and friends who have been lost to cancer.
Team Lyla raised $768 in honor of Lyla Juarez, a fierce little girl who was recently diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of 1 1/2. Their team spirit and cheers lit up the 5K!
Brittany Wilson raised $715 in memory of her cousin, Ryan Atherton-Ely, who passed away from a rare spinal cancer. Brittany was the fastest woman at our 5k, with an impressive time of 20 minutes and 59 seconds!
Michael Jones’ Team Running and Remembering Dana Wolfe raised $710 and ran in honor of Dana Wolfe, an enthusiastic triathlete who recently passed away from leiomyosarcoma. Michael had his best 5k running time ever!
Steven Chasen raised $655 in honor of his wife, Mary Ann Chasen who passed away from pancreatic cancer last year. This was Steve’s second 5k with us, and both years he was the top runner in the 55-64 age group.
Monali Malaveetil returned to our 5K for the 2nd year in a row and raised $572 in memory of her father, Dhanesh Dalal.
Jim Parsons raced with us for the 3rd year in a row. He raised $455 for the 5K for Mom team, in honor of his mother, Donna Prisnock, who was treated for kidney cancer and is now cancer free.

2012 Cancer Prevention and Treatment 5K
Our Cancer Prevention and Treatment 5K in Georgetown on September 23, 2012 was bigger and better than ever, thanks to all our wonderful participants, donors, supporters, volunteers, and sponsors! Donations are still being accepted on our race site through December 24, 2012 so it’s not too late to be part of this wonderful event!

Special thanks to our amazingly successful teams, who raised thousands of dollars to help us help fight cancer before it starts and help all cancer patients get the best possible treatment:
Team Mathias raised $6,059 in honor of 11-year-old Mathias Giordano who was recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma and was able to participate in the 5K in his wheel chair. His smile lit up the entire 5K.
Team Olson raised $3,940 in honor of Douglas Olson.
#TheMovement raised $2,355 in honor of Patrick Ryan, who was diagnosed with testicular cancer in June 2012.
Sarah Inman‘s team raised $1,050 in honor of Sarah Inman, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in January of 2011 and is doing well.
Stacey Francois’ Wade T. team raised $935 in honor of Stacey’s dad, who died of colon cancer.
Canden Schwantes’ IMOJim5K team raised $520 in honor of her uncle Jim, who died of colon cancer.
Team Mya B Well raised $370 in honor of Mya, who was diagnosed with a neruoblastoma at nine months and is cancer free almost a year later.
Witt Associates raised $335 in honor of several cancer survivors and friends and family members lost to cancer.
Team Dubs raised $330.
